How Deep The Father's Love For Us

The worship team is working on a couple of new songs, one of which is Stewart Townend's "How Deep The Fathers Love For Us"

When we first look at a song I don't really pay attention to the words because I am listening for the bass line and trying to learn the song from a musical standpoint. When I got home from practice tonight I went over the songs with my acoustic (it helps to learn the lyrics better than playing with my bass) and I fell in love with the words. And it's right in my vocal range so I'm going to have this one stuck in my head all week (which is not a bad thing:) )

(Still forgot the B minors ;)

How deep the Father's love for us,
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure

How great the pain of searing loss,
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the chosen One,
Bring many sons to glory

Behold the Man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice,
Call out among the scoffers

It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

  1. It is one of my all-time favorite lyrics that doesn't (consistently) rhyme. In fact, it may be my all-time favorite lyric that doesn't consistently rhyme. So it would be hard to find a better song to get stuck in your head!

  3. I LOVE this song!!! I often have the kids play it just so I can sing with them. The words are wonderful!!!! Thanks for posting it so I can even sing along in the basement. :-) Maybe we can squeeze in a few minutes at the end of the day (or the beginning, or the middle or all of the above) to worship together on Sat. Can't wait to be withyour family......Mrs. B
